The Summit is the premier transformational youth leadership development event within the Caribbean region. It is convened by the Caribbean Regional Youth Council (CRYC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information (MoEYI) in Jamaica, Sir Arthur Lewis Institute for Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) of the University of the West Indies, The United Nations Population Fund and other key public and private stakeholders to celebrate Caribbean Youth Day on September 30.
The Summit is scheduled for September 30 – October 3, 2017, in the beautiful island of Jamaica under the theme, “Re-routing our GPS: Governance, Peace & Security.”
The key feature of this year’s Summit will provide unique opportunities for engagement through:
- The Youth Leaders’ Forum
- The Stakeholders’ Forum
The Summit aims to provide a unique opportunity for young leaders, youth development practitioners, academics and policymakers to meet together to discuss research and programming priorities and capacity building workshops for youth in the Agenda 2030: Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).We are expecting 150 – 200 participants from across the Caribbean region and the wider world to offer speeches, research papers, training workshops, assessments of good practice and cultural presentations at the Summit.

- Provide a platform for young leaders and youth development workers to engage in a dialogue with stakeholders on concrete commitments and actions to realize the SDGs at the national, regional and global levels. Young people will identify the roles youth and youth-led organizations will play at the policy and legislative levels to ensure implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
- Identify possible avenues for stakeholders in youth development to contribute to the intergovernmental review of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, including identifying ways that they can partner with governments, international development partners, civil society and private sector to ensure implementation. The Forum will also identify possible youth technology tools to promote, monitor and track implementation.
- Youth playing an active role in the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. Young people are key partners in the new agenda. They are therefore eager to ensure its realization by playing an active role in the implementation. The forum will provide a platform for young people to discuss youth-led monitoring and accountability mechanisms for the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and the measurement of youth participation throughout the SDGs.
- Provide a space for the capacity building of the youth leaders and youth development workers across the Caribbean to better serve an expeditiously evolving and innovative youth population.
Eligibilities
All Caribbean and global youth leaders between the ages of 18 – 29 who represent organisations with focused on youth development in all thematic areas are eligible for participation in the Summit. Please must be mindful that priority will be given to Caribbean applicants.
Applicants must be able to write and speak English as this is the working language of the conference.
PLEASE NOTE:
All successful participants will be given partial funding which will cover conference package, materials, accommodation, local transportation, catering & hospitality. Therefore all participants are required to cover their airfare, transit cost and any any visa cost incurred. Applicants must bear this in mind when applying; and should they be successful, will have a limited time-frame to book their tickets and prove their availability to attend the full conference.
CARICOM nationals not required a visa to travel to Jamaica. Should you be a citizen of a non-CARICOM member state, please ensure that you check with your Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the necessary information on travel to Jamaica.
