APRIL 20, 2018 – The National Youth Commission (NYC) is asking the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to extend the deadline for the filing of Certificates of Candicacy for SK election applicants.
Along with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), NYC is urging COMELEC to reconsider extending the deadline for the filing of COCs for SK aspirants.
As stated in a resolution 0013 that was signed by NYC officials on April 20, 2018, “there is a persistent clamor among SK aspirants to extend the deadline until over the weekend”. This is in coherence with ASec Jonathan Malaya of DILG’s appeal to prolong the filing period of COCs to give more time for those who are interested in running for SK positions.
If COMELEC will grant this appeal from DILG and NYC, it will provide more time for those who are interested in running for the SK elections to prepare the requirements and complete filing their COCs for the May 14, 2018 SK elections.
As of April 19, 2018, it has been reported that there was only a total of 181, 296 reported COCs for the SK elections that have been filed. This is only 60.43% of the 300,000 seats that must be filled for the May 2018 SK elections.
